The Smith Blade is the first crowdfunded product from Canadian engineering YouTube team Hacksmith Industries — and it exploded on launch in August 2025: against a $250k goal, 38,323 backers pledged $11.17M, over 6,000% funded, making it a ceiling-setter for tool campaigns in recent years. Its core pitch is putting a real knife back into the multi-tool: the main blade is M390 powder-metallurgy super steel — a material usually reserved for premium folding knives — with outstanding hardness, edge retention and corrosion resistance, ready to cut through almost anything. The one-piece Grade 5 titanium body integrates 21 functions including pliers, a pry bar, a bottle opener and a bit driver, all in pocketable EDC size. Hacksmith is famous for turning fictional props into real hardware (lightsabers, Captain America's shield, Wolverine claws). The Smith Blade is their first step from viral engineering into mass-produced consumer gear.
