EEW Fold

About this project

Traditional spinning wheels are big and awkward; taking one to a fiber retreat or on a trip usually isn't an option. Electric wheels removed the treadling labor but rarely solved portability. The EEW Fold is the latest from Maurice Ribble, creator of the Electric Eel Wheel line (EEW 6, EEW Nano), and it balances both: a clever folding mechanism collapses the wheel into a carry-anywhere size in seconds, with a rugged glass-filled nylon body and bobbins that fold flat. At up to 3,000 RPM it's the fastest eSpinner in the lineup—slow enough for smooth worsted yarns, fast enough for woolen long-draw, and capable of superfine high-twist yarns from short-staple or slippery fibers like cotton and cashmere. Launched in January 2025, it drew 1,822 backers and $435,203, around 2,176% funded, passing the $400K stretch goal that unlocked a community-voted second color.

Highlights

  • Fold in seconds: full spinning wheel to carry-anywhere size, at home, traveling or at retreats
  • Fastest in the line: up to 3,000 RPM for smooth worsted slow-spinning and woolen long-draw
  • Handles slippery fibers: superfine high-twist yarns from cotton and cashmere
  • Community co-creation: backers voted on a second color after passing $400K
