PLA researchers lay the groundwork for humanoids on the battlefield

A September 2026 Reuters investigation finds PLA researchers laying the groundwork for battlefield deployments of humanoid robots over the next five to ten years, working alongside soldiers, drones and other unmanned systems. About USD 300,000 was allocated in June 2026 to collect and label sensor and movement data for battlefield navigation; battery life, reliability and autonomous decision-making remain the major challenges.
