Planck: The World’s Smallest Phone-first SSD with up to 2TB

About this project

Shooting ProRes on a phone rarely hits the camera's limit — it hits storage. A 256GB phone fills up fast, and traditional portable SSDs are too heavy and cable-bound to carry while filming handheld. Planck packs an NVMe chip into roughly 10 grams and plugs straight into the phone's USB-C port, lying flat against the device and disappearing into your palm — billed as the world's smallest phone-first SSD. With 1TB/2TB options and 10Gbps throughput, its headline trick is recording Apple ProRes 4K 60/120fps directly with zero frame drops, so footage lands on the drive as you shoot. Water and drop resistant, and multiple units can be labeled for organized content workflows from mountains to studio. Launched in February 2025, it drew 2,432 backers and about HK$4.03 million (roughly $519K), around 5,751% funded.

Highlights

  • 10 g disappearing act: plugged into your phone it's virtually invisible mid-shoot
  • Zero-drop ProRes recording: 4K 60/120fps writes straight to the SSD
  • Cable-free plug-in: USB-C direct, no tangled wires
  • NVMe speed in a fingernail: 1050 MB/s moves big files in seconds
