Outrider: A Tire Pressure Sensor For Bikes

About this project

Tire pressure hugely affects a bike's performance and comfort, yet most of us rely on feel or wildly inaccurate floor pumps. Too high and you slide around; too low and rocks batter your rims; a puncture can go unnoticed. Outrider is a pressure sensor that lives inside your tire, showing real-time pressure on your Garmin head unit with ±0.7% accuracy from 0-39psi and ±1.4% from 40-85psi at 0.1psi resolution, so you can dial in pressure on the road or trail. It alerts you audibly the moment you puncture, letting you stop safely and protect yourself and your rims. Epoxy potted electronics withstand sealant and vibration, it works with your existing tubeless valve stems, and a replaceable CR1225 coin cell lasts about two years across road, mountain, gravel, and e-bikes. Launched in October 2024, it drew 1,609 backers and raised $166,672, around 5,555% funded.

Highlights

  • Real-time pressure: live readout on your head unit
  • Precise: 0.1psi resolution, ±0.7% accuracy
  • Puncture alert: instant warning protects you and rims
  • No charging: CR1225 coin cell lasts about 2 years
