Mirumi: A Charm Robot that Steals a Glance—and Your Heart

Companion robots usually chase function — conversation, reminders, monitoring. Tokyo's Yukai Engineering takes another path: it does nothing useful, it simply lives, and that's what makes it moving. Mirumi is a charm-style little robot that notices the world and turns to take a peek. When its shy gaze meets yours and it glances away, it sparks the same unexpected joy as a baby on a crowded train suddenly looking your way. A head touch sensor detects pats and a special algorithm picks adorable reactions at random; it turns toward sounds and voices with curiosity, and makes spontaneous little movements even when nothing is happening, adding lifelike charm. Hung on a backpack, it delights people behind you too. No utility — just pure emotional value. Launched in December 2025, it drew 2,053 backers and about ¥79.42 million (roughly $500K), around 10,382% funded.
