Doze - Micro Geiger: Measure Your Daily Radiation Dose

About this project

Radiation is invisible: cabin radiation mid-flight runs up to a hundred times ground levels, and medical scans, old building materials or imported food can all raise questions — while professional Geiger counters stay bulky, pricey, and short on battery. Doze is pitched as the first consumer dosimeter built to live in your pocket: 59×34×13mm and under 35g, with a Geiger tube for beta and gamma rays, the classic click and LED flash on every count. It shows live radiation rates and accumulates your daily dose around the clock, alarming when your own thresholds are crossed. A low-power ATtiny167 stretches battery to a year, USB-C charges it, and the firmware is open for reprogramming. Launched in February 2025, the project drew 1,167 backers and raised €101,816 (~$116,000) against a €5,000 goal — about 2,036% funded.

Highlights

  • Pocket Geiger counter: 59mm card size at just 35g
  • 24/7 dosimetry: live rate plus accumulated daily dose
  • Year-long battery on low-power design, USB-C charging
  • Hackable: upload your own firmware over USB-C
