Lofree EDGE, Smoothest Ultra Low-Profile Mechanical Keyboard

About this project

Ultra-thin keyboards have long been membrane or scissor-switch territory — mechanical boards that slim always sacrifice feel. Lofree EDGE wants to be a genuinely thin mechanical keyboard. It pairs a 3K twill carbon-fiber top case with a magnesium-alloy base, hitting just 485 g and 5.4 mm at the thinnest edge — an extreme figure for mechanical. Kailh's co-developed POM Switch 2.0 runs a 2.4mm travel, tuned between 1.0 and 2.8mm; hot-swap is deliberately dropped for slimness, replaced by a PCB-Gasket structure with no plate or sockets, soldered switches and PCB-integrated gaskets. Wired mode delivers 1000Hz polling with negligible latency, and the battery is relocated to the 'chin' to slim the profile. Even carbon-fiber offcuts are repurposed into a bonus 3D-puzzle panel. Launched in April 2024, it drew 2,060 backers and about HK$2.79 million (roughly $357K), around 1,782% funded.

Highlights

  • Carbon fiber + magnesium: a 485g mechanical board, 5.4mm thinnest
  • Kailh POM switches at 2.4mm travel, thin without losing feel
  • PCB-Gasket structure trades plate and sockets for extreme slimness
  • Carbon fiber offcuts become a bonus 3D-puzzle panel, zero waste
