Carvera Air: A Smart and Versatile Desktop CNC

Desktop CNC's barrier is setup: probing, leveling, tool changes and fixturing all demand experience, and a beginner's first project often dies in preparation. Makera's Carvera Air bakes intelligence into the machine. Auto probing and leveling calibrate tools and detect surface irregularities, cutting manual setup and material waste; a quick tool changer rides on 20mm linear rods and ball screws for precision. The 4th-axis module enables true simultaneous 3D machining — chess pieces and figurines in plastic, wood or metal — while an optional 5W laser head adds engraving and cutting. The all-in-one CAM software runs cross-platform, controllable from phone or tablet, and stays compatible with mainstream CAM packages. It's also a killer tool for chemical-free desktop PCB making, even double-sided boards. Launched in April 2024, it drew 2,098 backers and $3,469,320, about 6,939% funded.
