Cook Well: Home Cooking Companion

About this project

Most cooking content teaches recipes, but the real difficulty for home cooks lies elsewhere: how many people are eating, what's in the fridge, when work ends, who has dietary limits. These shifting constraints make 'follow the steps' fail every time. Cook Well is cooking educator Ethan Chlebowski's answer: a companion app that teaches you to think like a home cook. Its core beliefs are frameworks before recipes — master general cooking patterns and any ingredient becomes manageable; grocery shopping matters as much as cooking, so planning starts at the store; and every cook needs a personalized system built on their schedule, budget, tastes and health goals. It's not another recipe database but an attempt to turn cooking intuition into a learnable method. Launched in June 2025, it drew 2,167 backers and $320,368, about 320% funded.

Highlights

  • Teaches intuition, not recipes: learn to think like a cook instead of following steps
  • Frameworks first: master patterns that generalize to any dish
  • Shopping is cooking too: plan the week from the grocery list
  • Personalized to your schedule, budget, tastes and health goals
